Pentyrch Open Gardens 2019 Donations

Following our recent AGM we can reveal the donations made by Pentyrch Open Gardens for 2019.

Our nominated charity was the Welsh Air Ambulance who received half of the net income raised on the Open Gardens Weekend. We were pleased to present a cheque of £2,259.40 to them.

Grant application had been invited for projects which benefit or enhance the community or environment of Pentyrch.

The grants awarded were:

£400 to Pentyrch Village Hall towards the maintenance of the Hall’s flower beds.

£500 to St Catwg’s Church to support a project to refurbish the church pipe organ.

£500 to Pentyrch Tennis Club to support a project to maintain the tennis courts in a good and safe condition.

£799 to Pentyrch Active Recreation Committee to support the cost of purchasing play equipment to be located at Pentyrch Memorial Park.

£100 to Pentyrch & Creigiau Luncheon Group towards the group’s Christmas meal and a gift for each person.

Our chosen charity for 2020 will remain the Welsh Air Ambulance.

Thanks to all who visited Pentyrch Open Gardens, in this our twentieth year. This was a record breaking year with 492 visitors over the weekend.

A huge thank you to everybody who makes this weekend possible, the gardeners who kindly open their gardens, the army of volunteers who man the Village Hall, courtesy bus, plant sale and everybody who donated cakes and raffle prizes.

Pentyrch Pebbles Competition

This year’s Pentyrch Open Gardens Weekend on 6th & 7th July will feature a Pentyrch Pebbles competition. The theme for the Pebbles will be Flowers and/or Birds.

The categories will be Under 7, 7-10, 11-15 and Adult.

There will be prizes for the best pebble in each category and a prize for the overall winner.

Pebbles will need to be in the Village Hall by 11am on Saturday 6th July for judging. You can then collect your pebbles at 5pm to hide around the village .

Prizes will be awarded on Sunday 7th.

Twenty years of Pentyrch Open Gardens

This year the 20th Pentyrch Open Gardens Weekend takes place, it will be held on the :

Saturday 6th July 2019 and Sunday 7th July 2019

Sat 10.00 am – 5.00 pm      Sun 11.00 am – 5.00 pm

Tickets – £6 per person for a weekend pass – these can be purchased on the day from Pentyrch Village Hall (CF15 9QR). Accompanied children are free. N.B. No dogs – except guide dogs.

  • Delicious homemade light refreshments served all day in the village hall
  • Courtesy minibus to access all the gardens around the village
  • Large plant sale

Half of profits made on the Open Gardens Weekend will be donated the Welsh Air Ambulance and the other half will be donated to projects which benefit or enhance the community or environment of Pentyrch.

 

 

Merry Christmas from Pentyrch Open Gardens

Merry Christmas from Pentyrch Open Gardens and thank you for all the support we have received during 2018.

Another successful Open Gardens Weekend was held this summer with a number of new gardens opened. The weekend attracted a total of 299 visitors to the gardens.

Our nominated charity for 2018 was the Welsh Air Ambulance who received half of the net income raised on the Open Gardens Weekend. We were pleased to present a cheque of £1,484.74 to them. This amount represents the cost of one call out for the Welsh Air Ambulance which is funded solely by voluntary donations.

Grant application had been invited for projects which benefit or enhance the community or environment of Pentyrch.

The grants awarded were:

£300 to Pentyrch Bowling Club to replace their sprinkler system.

£500 to St Catwg’s Church towards pollarding trees in the the churchyard.

£350 to Pentyrch Community Council towards the purchase of the final war memorial bench.

2019 is the 20th anniversary of the start of Pentyrch Open Gardens and we hope to have a bumper year with new gardens and hopefully some of the original gardens opening.

The Open Gardens Weekend will take place on the 6th and 7th July and our chosen charity will remain the Welsh Air Ambulance.

AGM 4th October 7pm

Dear Gardeners and Pentyrch Open Garden supporters,

Our AGM is fast approaching! This year it is in the Lewis Arms on
Thursday 4th October from 7pm.

We will be presenting a cheque to this years chosen charity, The Welsh
Air Ambulance Trust.

All are welcome, and if you know anyone else who may be willing to help
or to open their gardens next year, please extend this invitation to
them as well.

Emma will provide one of her excellent buffets for £7 per head. Please
let Chris and Helen Edwards have the £7 by 1st October if you intend participating in the buffet.
